4rd World Indoor Championship
The fourth edition of the World Indoor Championship kicked off today morning, 03rd February, in the provinces of Mantua and Verona, in the gyms of Guidizzolo, Monzambano, Volta Mantovana and Valeggio sul Mincio.
Organized on behalf of the International Federation by the Italian Federation FIPT under the patronage of CONI and Spor&Salute, the Lombardy Region and the Veneto Region, the Provinces of Mantua and Verona, the Association of Morainic Hills of Garda, in collaboration with the respective municipalities, with the Provincial Committees of Mantua and Verona, and with the companies ASD Castellaro, ASDT Cereta and ASDT Virtus Guidizzolo.
It will be the most important event of the year, with the participation of 10 nations, confirming a movement in ferment and constantly growing even beyond the European borders.
10 selections at the start in the men's category, divided into 2 qualifying groups: in group A we find Italy, Catalonia, Hungary, San Marino and Portugal; in group B France, Brazil, Germany, England and Benin. The first ranked team of each group will go directly to the semi-finals with the winners of the play-off between the second and third qualified of each group.
For the women single qualifying round and six teams: France, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Catalonia and Benin. Semifinals will see matches between first and fourth, and second and third classified.
The start of the races with the qualifying phase on Friday morning, on all four structures.
In the afternoon - at 16h15 - in the gym of Volta Mantovana, the official opening ceremony of the event. Present the major sports and local political authorities such as the President of CONI Giovanni Malagò and the President of CONI Lombardia Marco Riva, the Presidents of the International Federation Bernard Barral and the Italian Federation Edoardo Facchetti, the Mayors and Councilors for Sport of the four host municipalities including the champion Damiano Tommasi, mayor of Verona.
A special thanks goes to the band of Volta Mantovana, to the tenor duo and to the dance company "Ganxse" who animated and cheered the ceremony.
On Saturday afternoon space for the semifinals and challenges to award positions from 7 ^ to 10 ^ for the male teams.
Semifinals on Sunday morning in Valeggio sul Mincio and Volta Mantovana and finals on Sunday afternoon in Valeggio sul Mincio.
